City of Wellford Police Dept. -- Crime Prevention

Crime prevention plays a major role in law enforcement's war against crime. At the Wellford Police Department we use crime prevention as a first line of defense in order to keep our community and its people safe. We start with our community's youth, making sure that they are not forgotten, after all they are the future of our community. By playing a role in their lives and guiding them in the right direction we will have already started preventing crime. Community policing also plays a big part; by being seen on patrol on a regular basis and taking the time to become acquainted with the people we are protecting. Last but not least, is educating the people in our community and starting neighborhood watch groups to be our eyes when we are elsewhere on patrol. There are many types of crime prevention, but the most effective is community involvement. The more we know about about our community, the more the community knows about us as people, not just as officers wearing a badge, the more they know about things we are trying to accomplish in our efforts to prevent crime in our community, the more they will be willing to help. I truly believe it takes all of us working together to make this a safer and better place to live, work, and play.
